After we got over the euphoria of starting our own design company in 1993, we decided that design work for pesky clients was just too much aggravation. About the same time, we had a notion to pool together some of our lettering for those same clients and design a small postcard advertising the "fonts” for $25 each or $150 for everything. We mailed it to 400 hand-typed addresses and blissfully forgot about it until the art director from Warner Brothers Records called wanting the entire collection sent for next day delivery. After invoking the "please allow four to six weeks for deliver” clause in our fine print, we coaxed those original glyphs into font format. In spite of early technical and practical shortcomings, the General Collection fonts still have an organic flavor that strikes a nerve in today’s design and advertising trades.
